Overview

Bone and soft tissue tumors occur in the musculoskeletal organs such as bones and muscles, and they not only impede various physical activities, but sarcomas, rare and intractable tumor types, sometimes threaten the patient’s lives. Multidisciplinary treatments combining radical surgery, drug therapy, and radiation therapy is essential, and functional reconstruction after extensive resection, generally performed by tumor prostheses or autologous complex tissue transplantation etc., is also an important issue for improving patient’s QoL. In this course, we are aiming to develop novel insights from rare disease research into universal medical research through exploring the fundamental characteristics of sarcoma cells, and developing novel therapies targeting those characteristics, and researching novel functional reconstruction methods that apply stem cell biology.
