Our fundamental principle for clinical practice is “The treatment for kidney diseases should be served from the cradle to the grave”. In other words, we treat all patients with various kidney diseases; not only patients with abnormality of urinalysis but also patients with end-stage kidney disease receiving hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplantation, with complications that are associated with kidney diseases, and, furthermore, terminal patients with super-aged, cognitive impairment, or frailty. We are also engaging in basic and clinical research. We are working on the specific theme as follows; 1. relationship between chronic kidney disease and cognitive impairment, 2. acute kidney injury and mortality, 3. the mechanism for development of diabetic kidney disease, 4. renal outcome among general population, and 5. cohort study among hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients. The ultimate goals in our department are cultivating excellent nephrologists, cooperation among medical staff regardless of department or specialty and forwardness for translational research.
